If you are a gardener, find a gardening center, nursery, or farm near you that is educating their customers. My favorite in my area is the Lake Street Garden Center in Salem NH; it takes me almost an hour to drive there, but their information and knowledge along with the excellent quality of their plants is well worth it. Yes, they have gained my trust and I like them. They show they care.
If you have a business like a gardening center, nursery, or farm, one way to entice more people to become your customers is to hold classes. These classes can be on almost anything you are comfortable with.
You can just stand there and talk, but liven it up with exhibiting the real plants right there where they can touch, smell, and see what you mean for maybe a talk on roses. In the summer you could be doing a talk on planting shrubs and trees; have slides set up to showcase how they look in the wintertime when you took photo in the snow for red or yellow twig dogwood. In the winter give a hands-on demonstration on forcing bulbs and charge folks for putting together their own narcissus grouping.
Answer all the questions that people have for you. You may be there for another hour chatting with folks while answering their questions, but you are gaining their trust as well as them as customers….And they WILL be back then.
